This week’s Challenge 48 was sooooo good. It had me on the edge of my seat. Seriously. The only other Challenge 48 that put me in a similar condition was the Bungee Jump one, but that was still a bit different, mainly because I was getting teary-eyed and laughing at the same time, with neither one contributing to the other.Today’s challenge features Sayanee, Ainyan, and Rikanyan trying to a double dutch routine involving cartwheels and stuff. They only have 48 minutes to practice. That’s 3 quarters of an hour!
Even though it sounds like I’m making fun of that street team, I bet they’re really skilled. Either way, they demo the whole routine, and it’s up to those 3 members to copy them.We get to see them vigorously get at it with practice. These 3 are among the more athletic members of NMB48 with Ainyan being the best of them all, so there’s definitely a lot of potential here. We see Sayanee start practicing the double cartwheel and the quick step. In that picture you can even see them practice the double handed leap.
Remember how I said Ainyan was the sports girl? (You better, I just said it 2 sentences ago!) She starts off the worst and she looks super uncomfortable for some reason, leading off with her hands and trying to swat the jump ropes away. You can see the buildup. Ainyan thinks she can’t do it. Sayanee and Rikanyan think it’s difficult, but they keep working, and in the end Sayanee just wants a little more time. She knows they can do it. With all the practice finished up, there’s this feeling I got that they really could do it if they had a little more time. I was nervous seeing as how Ainyan had the first try and she looked the least ready… but somehow, she managed it.
One by one, everyone came in doing their tricks and I was just thinking… wow, they might be able to do it! I tempered by thinking that “Oh, that was the easy trick, hopping on one leg.” But no, one by one… the cartwheel, even Ainyan’s double hand leap thing, Rikanyan successfully vaulting over someone. They can do it! They can do it! I felt that smile slowly form on my face.Yeah! They completed their challenge! I’ve never felt so happy for them. I just really like watching people work hard and achieving their goals, even if it’s something as small as this and even if it’s heavily edited reality TV stuff. It’s just awesome. And unlike some of the other challenges where they have to do silly and pointless stuff that may not be within their skill set, this one felt like an actual, justifiable challenge.
This is definitely an episode to check out. I don’t think this crappy blog entry did it justice.
