Lately my sleep has been terrible. I need to stop playing League so late into the night. It’ll be like 9… “I wanna get some games in.” Then it’ll be 3 hours later because “I need to ride the win streak” or “I don’t want to go to bed on a loss” or “I didn’t want to play that role anyway so I have to play another game to get the role I want.” Then it usually takes 30 minutes or so for me after I finish playing to calm down to be able to sleep.
Yesterday I got smart. I thought, let me try watching Geinin! before I go to bed so I don’t have to roll around for 30 minutes before finally falling asleep.
That was a terrible idea with Osakaben flying everywhere, no JP subtitles for me to read, and me being tired. We start with an announcement of a DVD Box set. Looks like I know what I wanna buy. Generally the boxsets come with good extras and backstage stuff which is always a treat. What annoys me is that it’s still on a DVD and therefore low-res. Come on, get with the program, get on HD already. It’s really strange how (illegally) downloaded episodes from TV rips are higher quality than legit buys of the DVD. If I remember correctly the plot was really really dumb. It’s a summer fair, the teacher says an old senpai was coming to visit and she was really popular nowadays. The entire episode revolves around Rika saying “Long time no see, do you remember me?” and they don’t remember her at all but they say do even though they don’t. Yeah. Kind of a waste of Rika’s talents. I’ve probably said this before but I really like Rika, she’s great at talking and great at singing, so entertainment wise she should be a sure hit but… meh. Maybe she’s the Yuttan of NMB48. So they spend the episode trying to remember where they could’ve possibly met or even if they have met. They make a reference to HERO, an old Kimura Takuya drama where he plays a prosecutor always trying to find out the truth with his crazy ingenious ways. It also features Matsu Takako, who was really pretty and talented. I think there’s a rumor where an idol said she didn’t want to take swimsuit/gravure photos and cried, and the manager got mad and said something like “There’s only one idol in this world who doesn’t have to do this and that’s Matsu Takako!”
I remember watching that drama. It was alright. I actually don’t remember much.
Speaking of which, for the variety show minigame, they take five of them and they all have to strike gravure poses. So in the end I think they reveal that Rika was supposed to trigger tsukkomis from everybody because they hadn’t met at all but the laugh club didn’t do it. Also that she’s not really famous but rather second rate.
For manzai we have Ainyan, Maachun, and Double Cheese Jou.
Ainyan didn’t seem to have improved. She seems both scripted and emotionless, like you can’t really get behind her tsukkomi. On the other hand Maachun is really clever and Jou is just like a kid who doesn’t care about what’s going on. I think that’s why Jou and Nana are really solid, because Jou is wild and nutty and Nana is supposed to be all mature and calm but she breaks down easily.
I’m still wondering why they haven’t paired Maachun with Rika yet. They compete together in comedy competitions, (R-1 in the past, and lately “King of Skits”) so why not have them together doing manzai?
Also I like Maachun with her hair down. Makes her look more adult-like.
Remember how I was talking about Matsu Takako and how she doesn’t need to do gravure? In the episode preview there is a “Cabin Attendant club vs Laugh club swimsuit battle”. What? Really? Why?
As a big Yamamoto Sayaka fan it seems that when she does this stuff she has this “I wish I didn’t have to do this” look. Especially with that one “Rocker-nyan” video. Haha. On the other hand Milky loves it.
