NMB48 pulls out something that only NMB can pull off, by naming their song after a staff member from AKB48. The song is apparently about how some guy likes a girl that is seeing a guy named Kitagawa Kenji, but he realizes he likes her because of what he is doing to her. It’s… surprisingly deep if you think about it, but it’s generic idol pop so it can’t be that deep. The dance moves are… interesting, to say the least. The choreographer seems to be a big fan of the chicken dance. Also interesting is Yui making her debut with NMB here. I kinda wish she did some other work previous to this with NMB besides appearing at the theatre because it is a bit jarring. Still, image-wise she fits in quite well, probably because those costumes are like recycled Naminori Kakigoori costumes. Huh. There’s also one line that she sings with Nana and they really complement each other well voice-wise. Nana’s voice is always an interesting topic. When my cousin first heard it he was like “OMG what’s her problem. I’d hate myself if I had a voice like that.” I felt the same way at first but it actually grew on me. Her singing voice is interesting because it makes for a really good complement, kinda like how Takamina is the dominant tenor slot in AKB.
For our “high-impact move”, we have…
NMB top 4 gets down on their knees, other people stand on them, people pass through under them. It’s pretty cool, I guess. It seems kinda dangerous how they climb on them without any support. At least for Virginity, Sayaka had help from Milky and Nana. On the other hand I feel like this is revenge for having her walk on them, lol. They also have an Aitakatta like move where they run from one end of the stage to the other.
Maachun also does this dance move that really bothers me where she lifts her elbows up. The reason is bothers me is because it reminds me of Monkey Island 3 when the pirates keep singing and you can’t get them to shut up and one of the fat pirates dances exactly like that. And since the game was made in like the year 2000, he does the same move forever and ever. And it’s actually kinda funny. That’d be interesting. Maachun channeling Monkey Island. Yeah, right, lol.So far impressions of the song are favorable to me. It’s incredibly catchy and fun and everyone’s smiling and we all having a good time until there’s a party foul and someone spills beer and then…
The impressions from AKB48 Matome seems to be that people like it begrudgingly. Sounds great, everyone loves the performance, but… dat title.
Only NMB could pull it off.
Now, moving on to Sashihara’s new song… when I first heard it was a collaboration between her and AnRiRe (Iriyama Anna, Kawaei Rina, Katou Rena) I was interested. Why would they combine 3 new gens with Sashihara? Something about it’s cool, right?Listening to this song… I realized, it was actually quite catchy and good. But… apparently, Riichan center, Sasshi on the right, and, all the camera shots are directed towards Riichan.
Don’t get me wrong. I like Riichan because of her awesome Gyouza Kenpou, and I’m lukewarm to Annin because I think she’ll be super hot when she grows up but she also said “I don’t like people who can’t choose an Oshi.” And I do generally like Sasshi’s defeatist-style humor.
I think this a little too much. I think they should’ve toned it down given the scandal that occurred and the thought that anything negative might be construed as punishment.I mean it was Sasshi’s kickass marketing campaign that got me to buy Soredemo Suki Da Yo! but this is like… I dunno. Bad taste in my mouth. And sadly, I might end up buying it anyway because I like the song. I’m not sure if she sang it live on HEY!x3 either, I know she sang it live when she did her idol concert even though she was sick. And I really think she’s getting better. Hell she’s even good at dancing now if you watch UZA, she tears it up… but they put her in the back because of… scandal maybe? See?
We’ll never know and it’s just awkward. The other conspiracy theory that I’m holding out on is that management is testing whether or not people are still loyal to Sasshi based on whether they buy Type-A (AnRiRe prominent on the cover, centering the PV) or Type-B (Sashihara prominent on the cover, centering the PV). Which is still kinda awkward to me.
I do kinda feel bad for the AnRiRe too, because it’s like… they’re center, and dancing, but they’re not singing so it also looks strange. Like at least them sing and put Sasshi in the very back or something. The execution seems kinda wacky. Maybe, MAYBE it’s supposed to go along with the song… which means something like “Cowardly Masquerade” and how a guy hides his feelings by putting on a metaphorical mask and breaking up with a girl, loving someone else because he’s too cowardly to admit how much he likes the girl or something like that. But if I’m reaching for an answer, you already know something’s wrong.
On the plus side, Riichan looks really strong as a center.
