I wasn’t really THAT stoked when they announced Geinin 2. I’d actually rather have a Naniwa Nadeshiko 2.
Then I watched the first episode.
Still just as good as I remember it… actually, some better, some worse, but we’ll get to that later. Overall, still funny, still enjoyable, I like it a lot.
You know, I didn’t think Jo and Ainyan had much presence on the show at first, but surprisingly their lack of presence is really felt.
I think the plot is that they eventually attended that JK-1 thing but they only got 6th place, and I think they said Jo transferred and Ainyan graduated or something like that… but now there’s a contest for high school students and I think the winning school either gets to appear on a TV show or hosts a Yoshimoto TV show or something.
The catch is that they need 10 people to participate… and right now they only have 4.
I find it really unfortunate that this comedian’s name is BKB, because that’s an item in DotA that gives you magic immunity. And it’s actually the opposite of exciting because you wanna cast spells on someone and then all of a sudden that BKB comes up and you just wander around aimlessly while you pray that it goes away before the carry is done autoattacking you.
(The joke here is that the TV program that they would be on has more star studded comedians than BKB, who is not particularly popular, but they get pumped for him. Or rather, that is the comedian’s opening chant.)
Ripopo also appears. I’m not sure about her character. Kinda creepy and weird, actually.
The first variety portion was the tsukkomi challenge.
There’s something about Milky that makes me not like her. I don’t know what it is. And yeah I’ve talked about Dat Ass™ plenty of times, but there’s something about the way she’s acting and performing that just doesn’t shake me the right way. I don’t know what it is. In her tsukkomi she pretty much giggled her line and it was just like, ehh… okay.
I dunno why but Maachun seemed like she knew exactly what to do. I wonder if her comedic sense is just developing like that. Hers was probably the most professional-looking one. On the other hand…
As much as I harp on the NMB Suberi Queen, she’s actually quite adept at being an MC for TV shows and such, and she has TV presence. She fails but it’s not like awkward fail so you know she’s not terribly bad.
There’s also way too many jokes making fun of Sayaka’s sharp face. I feel like it’s been done over and over…
We’re also blessed with a second variety portion!
Fuuchan seems to be getting better at this comedy thing. At first I thought she was this typical cute girl that doesn’t do anything and acts really poorly, but with this and with the “hanami” video, her comedic sense seems to be improving a lot.
Overall it’s a great first episode. I definitely miss having these shows to watch.
The thing about having idols do comedy is that they are generally good looking and have no noticeable flaws so the best they can manage with Sayanee is her protruding jaw (which isn’t even that prominent, it’s proportional to her face. She has sharp features anyhow). They sure aren’t gonna call her ugly, which is what typically happens to female comedians. (Except Sashihara, Sashihara is the one exception because Ariyoshi, Gekidan and to a certain extent Tsuchida make a living off pushing the envelope).
I do agree Rikanyan should be on the show, and throw in the ‘Katahaba dekka man’ too.
It’s much funnier when Gotou messes with her though, he has his patented ‘analogy tsukommi’ so he can assist with that.
I think Ripopo’s purpose was to make her as similar to the real-life one as possible.
Fuuchan won the episode though. Great reaction to getting hit as well.

Weren’t most of them 3rd year students in season 1? Did they have to repeat the year or they just didn’t mention anything about it being a new academic year? Not that it matters anyway, just curious.
I’d have to look that up, but it seems like 黒い雪’s explanation is accurate.
I haven’t been paying much attention to the story though. Just trying to pay attention to jokes, haha.
Well, looking at the outfits, I assume the first season’s setting was spring~summer, while second season is fall~winter 😀
Iirc, they said Ainyan transferring and Jo continuing her study abroad. And yeah, I think I’m starting tomiss Jo’s kiddy smile and Ainyan’s natural tsukkomi.
I expected Keicchi to spit her poison but she didn’t D: <= is someone who fell for that side of Keicchi
It does seem like the story-sections of Geinin 2 are shorter. Maybe you’ll get your poison in a future episode, lol.
I hope so! Poisonous Keicchi ftw \:v/
Looks like she’s coming back in Episode 4 =)
YAY FINALLY, CAN’T WAIT. But I’ve yet to watch episode 3 /:v\
